Sea rush is one of the three types of green floor coverings made of vegetable fiber. It is a thatch growing in fresh or sea water estuaries. Sea rush’s advantage is its resistant aspect, whether it is against wear or stain; it is almost waterproof when coated with a latex layer. There are two types of finishes: twisted or in chevron.
Sea rush fits to wet rooms like a bathroom or a kitchen because it needs to be moistened four to six times a year to avoid that the fibers become breakable and so to preserve its elasticity. Efficient ventilation is to be planned. Put in other dry rooms, a floor cloth soaked with water is enough to moisten it.
The price of sea rush varies from 7 to 40 Euros the square meter.

Sisal is one of the three types of green floor coverings made of vegetable fiber. It is extracted from the agave, a plant that can be found in the Yucatan bay, Mexico. It is a comfortable and aesthetic cover at the same time: numerous tints are available and one can find a wide choice of weavings types.
Sisal is hard-wearing and stain resistant. It is almost waterproof, antistatic and it fits to any kind of rooms, dry or wet. Finally, its maintenance is easy: regular vacuuming and some shampoo once or twice a year are more than enough.
Not as cheaper as the other types of floor covering made of vegetable fibers, sisal’s price varies from 12 to 35 Euros the square meter.

Coco is one of the three types of green floor coverings made of vegetable fiber. It is taken from the bark which wraps the coconut and is available in numerous natural tints. Its installation requires a rubber undercoat beforehand.
Rather thick, it is hard-wearing and adapted to staircases and places with strong passage. Considered rot-proof, it is also advisable in well ventilated wet rooms. Finally, it absorbs no dust and is a natural antibacterial product.
It is to be cleaned with a specific product instead of water, contrary to the other types of floor covering made of vegetable fiber.
Its price varies between 7 and 25 Euros the square meter.

Carpet is the most comfortable floor covering thanks to its capacity to retain heat and to its sweetness. Left aside in recent years, carpet resurfaces today. But carpets are not often particularly green products: made of synthetic fibers, they retain dust and favor bacteria proliferation.
There are nowadays green carpets made of natural materials such as she-goat hair, recycled paper or even corn. Carpet is also a good thermal insulator and it efficiently stops noise (which is very convenient for someone who lives in a flat). Finally, it brings a certain safety thanks to its anti-skid aspect.
Prices are commonly rather high. One has to count around 50 Euros the square meter for the animal woolen carpet but can also find some around 200 Euros the square meter!

True linoleum is a green product: it mainly consists in linen oil, wood flour, cork, natural resins, minerals and pigments. These products are mixed to form a dough which will then be squeezed in hessian (for true linoleum, otherwise it often is a polyester medium). Both its manufacturing and its installation are green and linoleum shows numerous advantages.
It is hard-wearing (adapted to places with strong passage), stain and fire resistant and it also resists cigarette burns. It can last about fifty years, only if it is waxed about every five years with a specific resin. Finally, its upkeep is convenient and easy.
True linoleum is available from 20 Euros the square meter but its price can easily climb up to 60 Euros the square meter.
