Vegetable oils and natural pigments, already present in prehistoric times in our ancestors’ caves, have been used for thousands of years as natural paints.
Nowadays, ecological paints are made from bees wax, linen or castor oils, natural resins or extracts of citrus. They can also be found based on casein powder or lime. These paints are often neutral or white: natural pigments can be added in order to color them.
These non-toxic, organic paints have the great advantage of not being derived from petroleum. They are biodegradable, odorless and harmless to health. Beware however for allergy sufferers, who may be sensitive to extracts of citrus.
Another advantage is that the ecological paints often have a much greater penetrating power (thanks to linen oil). Their covering power is excellent and they also have a very good durability.
